Hello. I recently purchased an Officejet Pro 9025 and, since I am unable to scan directly to my iMac, I set up a network folder on the iMac desktop for that purpose. The printer recognizes the folder in Scan / Network but is unable to actually send a scan and I get "The user name or password is incorrect. Make sure access credentials have been configured correctly and try again." I set up everything using HP Smart. The user name and password I used are the ones I use when I log onto the iMac. Not sure what I have to do to finish this up. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,
Please follow the below guidelines:
Be sure to follow any of the steps, but please focus on the "Verify that the Current Printer Time is set to the GMT equivalent of the currenttime on themacOS client. " section first, it might do the trick and is likely the root cause in most cases.

Pay extra attention to :
Step 2: Check the printer date and time preferences
This the part that causes most authentication failures on macOS.

Thank you Shlomil for your assistance. No matter what I did I kept getting credentials and network error messages so I trashed everything and started over following the docs you sent. This time everything works fine. Again, thank you.

Sorry, re-reading my response I wasn't clear. I trashed the desktop folder I wanted to scan to and the information entered when setting up that network folder (name of network folder, network path, user name, etc.. Basically, I started all over as if it was the first time I set up a folder. I had a lot of trouble getting this to work on the iMac but was successful after many attempts.
A couple of weeks after I got the scan to work, my desktop log in password got changed and I lost the ability to scan again. Again I was unable to get the printer to scan to the iMac but did things a little different and was successful. I found I could not get it to work going through the printer web page no matter how many times I tried. Here's how I got it to work:
1. I opened the HP Smart app. It should show the printer in Ready mode.
2. Click on Printer Settings in the lower tabs.
3. Click on Advanced Settings on the left in the next window.
4 . Click on Scan To Network Folder on the right in the following window.
5. Follow the instructions in the windows that follow.
This is what worked for me the second time I had a problem.
NOTE: Make sure you enter the GMT time correctly. If it not done right, you won't have success getting the scan folder set up. Also, make sure you enter the network scan path correctly or again you won't be successful. My scan path looked something like this: \16.0.0.1\MyScans
(MyScans is the name of the folder on the desktop)
I wish you good luck.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DETAILED EXPLANATION. I NOW UNDERSTAND HOW YOU STARTED OVER.
I DID THAT AND USED THE HP SMART APPLICATION. IT APPEARS TO HAVE THE SAME INTERFACE TO THE PRINTER AND SAME PROCESS AND SCREENS.
BUT I COULD NOT GET A DIFFERENT RESULT.
ONE OF THE WAYS MY INFORMATION VARIES IS MY NETWORK PATH.
\\192.168.0.89\Vision\Users\admin\Scan Folder
THE EXAMPLE SHOWS TWO BACKSLASHES AND IT GETS A NETWORK ERROR IF I USE ONLY ONE.
THE OTHER DIFFERENCE IS MY FOLDER IS NOT LOCATED ON MY DESKTOP - "VISION" IS THE NAME OF MY HD, AND THE "ADMIN" FOLDER IS MY USER FOLDER WHERE I HAVE MY "SCAN FOLDER"
I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL FOLDERS PLACED IN VARIOUS PLACES.
I ALSO MADE SURE MY PRINTER CLOCK WAS GMT.
I'M CURRENTLY RUNNING OS CATALINA LATEST VERSION.
SO I STILL GET "INCORRECT CREDENTIALS" - I HAVE TESTED MY LAPTOP LOGIN JUST TO MAKE CERTAIN THE SAME LOGIN STILL WORKS AS EXPECTED.
ANY OTHER THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

OK I had to read the Windows version of this problem to find the MAC solution.
In the Sharing Preferences Panel in Systems Preferences. you have a window that looks like this...
and the OPTIONS button is the key because the printer is trying to work with your MAC via SMB and that has to be on for it to access your MAC.
My user name is "Administrator" and so I enabled SMB for that user and "read & write" access.
