Cannot scan

I have been trying in vain to scan from my OfficeJet 8610 all morning.

The HP Scan software cannot be found on my PC.  3 times I've been directed to download OJ8610_198.exe.  When I run this file, it tries to install my printer (again), but it never installs the software I need to scan.  I have uninstalled the printer completely and reinstalled using the setup file, but it still never installs the software.  When it's done, I have the 8610 listed in my Printers & Scanners settings, but when I run the HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 program from my Start Menu, it merely tries to re-install the printer again.  I never get the option to scan.

If I use Windows Scan, I get a message that I have no scanners installed.

I've had this printer for a long time but I've never had this much trouble with it, or with HP's website.  What am I doing wrong?

Try this standalone scan software

HP Scan Extended

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Thanks for the response.  I installed HP Extended scan, but it's still telling me "The HP Imaging Device was not found."

I (again) uninstalled the printer and let my PC find it on the network to reinstall it, but the scanner can't be found.

I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.3.1.  It's detecting scan problems and said they were fixed, but the first attempt at scanning gave me an error "The HP Officejet Pro 8610 was not found."
