Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I am trying to copy using printer only.  When I touch 'Start Black' (or 'Start Color')I get the message: 'Incorrect Paper. Copy does not support Custom.  Load a supported size of paper in the tray.  Touch "?" to view the supporten paper sizes.  Note: To use the paper currently loaded in the tray anyway, touch "Continue" or touch "Cancel" to cancel.

When I touch Continue the printer displays a message Copying page 1/1... and then ejects a blank page and displays a messsage: Paper Size Mismatch The paper size detected (Letter(8.5x11 in.)) by the printer does not match the paper size selected (Custom) for the print job.  When I touch OK it displays Copying page 1/1... And just waits indefinitely.

When I go to Copy Settings "Paper Size and Type" shows Custom, Plain P...  When I touch ">" to change this setting I get the message "Incorrect Paper Copy does not support Custom.  Load a supported size of paper in the tray to continue.

How do I change the paper size from Custom back to Letter, please I am desperately trying an am not able to do it.

I tried reset factory settings and just shutting the printer down and turning it back on again.  The custom size in 'Copy' remains and I am not able to copy anything. I have updated the printer software to the most recent version.

Hi,

open and close the input paper tray and then follow the prompts on the screen to modify the paper size or type.

Confirm any change and now copying should be possible.

Thank you!!  I tried everything to fix the same problem and in the same ways.  Now that I have the answer it seems such a simple solution but the what makes it simple now was your knowledge.   I was really frustrated but the good news at least only half of my hair was pulled out before I found your answer.  Thanks, again.
