Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Officejet Pro 8720

I've been searching unsuccesfully - trying to change the default location for scanner output. When I scan a document using the scan command on the all-in-one device (the wireless device is set up in an office location away from my computer), saving to 'my computer,' it currently saves to the Pictures folder which I'm reserving for my photos. I would like the desktop to be the default save-to-location, to conveniently grab scans and file them from there.

I do not have an HP folder with HP Utility in my computer Applications folder. I have a new Macbook Pro and it does not have a CD slot to run the older CD i got with my 8720 printer. Because of this, I can't change the destination this way.

Any help would be appreciated. I've attached the screenshots of what my HP help looks like on my computer, which doesn't look anything like the solutions in other forum question/answer threads.

Thanks!Screen Shot 2019-04-11 at 9.41.03 AM.pngScreen Shot 2019-04-11 at 9.41.14 AM.png

Hi BDSpyder

I am working on a HP 8710 MFB and set to print to my computer.  in the Easyscan app go to the menu:

HP easy scan > preferences

When preferences opens up you have a General tab and a Scan to my computer tab (at least there is on mine)

On scan to my computer there select the action you want to edit, for me it was save as pdf. then on the lower right select edit.  from there a popup will allow you to select the default folder.  Screenshot 2019-07-29 at 13.28.10.pngScreenshot 2019-07-29 at 13.28.34.pngScreenshot 2019-07-29 at 13.28.52.pngScreenshot 2019-07-29 at 13.29.04.png

Hi,

HP Smart allow changing the scan destination for the current scan saving, you cannot change the default location from Documents.

You may install HP Easy Scan by following HP Easy Start below, it provides more customization options such as remembering the last used save location:

Thanks for the info but this doesn't answer my question. There has to be a way to change the default destination folder (not just for the current scan) when you scan directly from the Officejet Pro 8720.
