OfficeJet Pro 6978 Printer

How do I connect the fax phone line of my OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer when I have a wireless router?  I keep getting a "Fax Line Noise Test" failure notice.   It recommends using a DSL line filter, but that didn't help.  I did not receive a phone line with the printer so I am using a different phone line.  All the other components of the Fax Hardware Test pass.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

You need to have a cord with connectors that have two wire leads and not four. 

 

Also, if you have a DSL/ADSL modem connected to your phone line for your Internet, you should be able to fax over the same phone line. To improve the chance of successful faxes, connect a microfilter to the same phone cord that connects to the printer’s 1-LINE connector. Obtain microfilters from your Internet Service Provider. If the DSL modem is shared on the same phone as the printer, then use a phone splitter to connect the two devices.

I still cannot get the fax test to PASS on the "Fax line Noise Test".  All the test reports refer to a "fax modem"---I have a wireless router.  Would that make a difference?  The telephone wall jack, the router, and the splitter are 4-pin, but the DSL silter I got is a 2-pin.  I'm assuming they are not compatible, so what do I do now to solve my problem?
