Ugh...this problem again!
So I am trying to scan to my laptop using the touchpad on the printer, and it is not finding the computer. Even when I went into preferences it would not "find" the document even though it is showing up in the preview screen on the left. I tried to delete the printer and reinstall it, but it still says that it can't find the computer. It did, however, allow me to scan it from the computer.
I've restarted the computer in addition to the removing the printer, but the same problem exists. Funny thing is, I have a desktop mac that it still is able to find. What do I do, and how do I make sure this doesn't happen again in a couple of months?
Thank you all!

Hi,
From your applications folder or within its HP subfolder delete any exsiting HP Scan or HP Easy Scan, do it by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.
Next install the latest HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-easy-scan-1_...
If you experience any further issues, ensure the latest software is installed by following HP Easy Start below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip
Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

Shlomi

Your instructions were quite useful. I am now able to print, but scan to computer will still not work. I can scan from the printer utility only, and its not as quick as the other way. Nevertheless, thank you for your reply. I was about to toss the printer out the window!

Sorry, but this recomendation didn't help. I have HP DeskJet 2130 and my MacBook Pro don't see the printer and scanner. I installed HP Easy Scan. It didn't see scanner too. I downloaded HP Easy Start, but this application dosen't work on Mac.

Hi @Masroor-MJ,
The HP Scanjet 4890 is not supporetd on Sierra, it is not longer supported on any OS X version later than 10.8...
You may install the 10.6 drivers and check if that woeks:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL31539/sj-78355-5/HP_Installer_Scanjet_v2.4.4_Ph5.dmg
It will most likely won't work well on Sierra anbd will be buggy or won't provide you a good output...
Than you may try instaling the 3rd party VueScan app which will likely work better on Sierra:
https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_scanjet_4890.html#technical-information
Hope that may works for you,
Shlomi
