Hi @Npena
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "Scan Quality issue- Dark scans" issue.
1)Do you get dark output even when you copy?
2)Have you tried using the ADF?
Meanwhile, try a power reset on the printer-
Reset the printer
Resetting the printer can force some types of scanners to calibrate, which might fix the problem.
-
Remove any items from the scanner glass and automatic document feeder (ADF), then close the scanner lid.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
-
Wait at least 60 seconds.
-
Plug the power cord back into a wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
Try the steps 2,4,5 in the document Improving Scan Quality
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

if i scan directly from the device (scan to email) the result is extremely dark. on the other hand, when i scan from the app, the result is good. what can i do? it looks like the settings default are wrong (and i'm not able to change them operating directly on the device)

Hi @MishaH
Please try the below steps for scan to email background issue –
Firstly, Note that the Dark background could be a result of “Low Contrast” or “Low Resolution” or “Low Output Selection” in the Scan Settings.
Solution 1:-
- While Sending Scan to Email from the Printer Control Panel, after entering the to and Subject details, you would find Settings Option as shown in Pic 2.
- Click on Settings and Scroll to find various settings.
- Look for Resolution :- Keep it min 200, if needed increase to 300
- Look for Output Color :- Increase this using the slider.
- Look for Contrast if present :- Increase the Contrast to 30 to 40 units.
- Look for Brightness if present :- Increase the Brightness.
- Also look for Paper Size , Source , File Type, and select them accordingly.
NOTE :- The above settings varies from printer to printer.
Try this and then Scan and Check the results.
Solution 2:-
Set up a New Scan to Email on EWS, and while setting it up look for the settings like
- “Default Output Quality” – Keep it High
- “Default Color Preference” – Select RGB
- “Default Resolution” – Min 200, increase if needed
- “Contrast” – Increase
- “Brightness – Increase
Again Note that the above settings vary from Printer to Printer.
Try these and check the results.

Thank you Jay_G24,
I tried the first option, but there are no settings options. I can only select the email i want to send the document to, and i can select if it has to be a document or a picture. That's all
Below are the pictures of the 5 steps on the display and a picture of a document that I scanned.
For what concerns the 2nd option, I don't know how to do that. Would you be able to give me more instructions? But also, why should i do something like that? it is a scanner and i only want to scan a piece of paper and make sure it is not too dark... why should i learn how to use EWS for that?
Also, when I tried the first option, i also tried to delete the account that I had registered (the email address that I send the scanned documents to), because i wanted to re-enter it and see if there were option to calibrate the scanner. When I tried to re-enter that email address (which now doesn't appear in the list) I am told that the email is already existing and i can't add it it again...
Is there a way that i can reset the printer to factory setup and see if that works?
Thanks
Misha

I am unable to view the images you have shared.
Refer to the video to set up scan to email from ews-Set up Scan to E-mail using HP Embedded Web Server
Note- the product might be different but the steps are similar
I have sent you a private message with the reset steps, specific to your printer. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
