Deactivate/Disable FAX on All-in-One-Series

I have an HP Office Jet 4630 – e-All-in-One Series.

I would like to disable the fax function altogether, but cannot find a way of doing it.

Everytime when my phone rings,  the answering machine will pick up but the fax dialing tone will also come on.  Dialing tone + recording = can not hear recording and dialing tone will go on and on.  I want to get rid of the fax. Period.

Did the following already – not working.   Help!

1. Unplugged the phone jack from the back of the printer.
2. Turned “OFF” Auto Answer for fax on the printer
3. Turned off printer completely

Unplug ALL phone cables from the back of the printer.

I unplugged all phone cords/cables from the back already.  

Only one phone cord for the answering machine and one phone cord from wall to Internet box (because of House alarm).

Not working - Faxing/dial tone still on.

OK, well with no phone lines connected you know as well as I that the printer is not at fault here.  You have another device in your house that uses a modem to connect somewhere.  Maybe Direct TV box or some other device.

The reason I know this is that it happened to me.  My upstairs direct TV box had an issue and when the  phone rang the Direct TV box would answer with a modem tone trying to connect.  I hard reset the Direct TV box and it fixed the issue.

Unplug all phone lines in your house going  to all equipment except your one phone to find the culprit.
