When I copy an 8 1/2 in.  x 11 in. document with my Deskjet 2132 all-in-one printer the bottom (approx.) 1/2 in. does not appear in the copy. I am running the Windows XP operating system. I have had the printer for nearly a year. I  have used it mostly for printing. I have used it to copy in the past, but maybe the is the first copy I tried where there was something in the bottom half inch of the document. Is there a way to get the entire original document copied?

I tried to copy an 8 1/2 x 11 "document" cut from a newspaper. It came out with a white border on all 4 sides. The material from that part of the original was just dropped. I tried printing from different applications on my computer. When I tried to set the margins, they all required a minimum of 0.57 " on the bottom and 0.116" on the other sides. If I set smaller margins, the settings would change to the required minimum.

I worked around my problem by scanning the original into a new document in  my OpenOffice Writer text editer. I then printed out that new document. I got a copy of all the material in the original, but on a slightly reduced scale.

(Another entry in the forum - "my deskjet 3050 cuts off about 1/2 inch on bottom" - describes a similar problem and solution for a different HP printer.)

While I was investigating this problem, I noticed that my printer was still under warranty. I got in contact with customeer support and was talking to a customer support rep. He checked some things on my computer and then said he would update the firmware for the printer. The contol string to do this failed. He claimed my computer had a virus. He said he could sell me a firewall. When I started debating this, he hung up on me and left the app he downloaded (and was running to help check out my computer)  open.

(I have Windows Firewall ON my computer, but do not run it. So I did not need a new firewall application. I run Malwarebytes to check for viruses or other malware. I investigated for the virus he claimed I had and found no evidence of it or any other malware.)

HI @ohab12

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you share how did you contact the HP Support? (phone numbers or URL link etc)  Seems a bit fishy from the description.

Thanks!

I believe the sequence was..

  1) Google search for "HP printer warranty" enabled me to verify I had 2 months left on warranty

  2) Google search for "HP printer support" enabled me to start a chat session; the csr took my phone number*

  3) I soon received a phone call. This csr asked permission to initiate a remote control session. I agreed. I downloaded a program/app/software that made the remote control possible. He ran some sort of system check I believe. Then he said he would update the firmware for the printer. What appeared to be a typical Command Line winow (black background with white command lines whizzing by) was showing  (it may have been there for his system check also - not sure). The command lines ended with an error message. I am not sure exactly what it said. It included a reference to rundll32.exe. He said this was a virus rundll32.exe. Then we had our firewall "discussion" and he hung up.  I find no evidence that rundll32.exe is infected. Also Malwarebytes and Spybot do not report a problem.

* This is what I remember. When I try it now, I can't get a chat session started. Maybe I filled out a support request form and very quuickly receved a call.

Hi @ohab12

Thanks for the info. Do be careful when anyone tries to "remote control" your PC as they may plant Malware or Ransomeware.

Here's an advisory from HP:

HP Fraud Alert: Protect Yourself from Scams

Fraudulent callers are posing as HP representatives and asking HP customers for personally identifiable information. In some cases, originating phone numbers appear to be from genuine HP contact numbers.
These scam callers might request the following:
  • Your personal information
  • A return call
  • A fee for technical support services
  • Remote access to your computer or device, so they can install malware or viruses in order to charge you a removal fee
To protect yourself if you receive one of these scam calls, hang up and do not provide any personally identifiable information.
  • Do not provide any confidential information, such as customer IDs, passwords, contact information, social security numbers, credit or debit card numbers, PINs, or account information.
  • Do not provide remote access to your computer or device.
  • Do not transfer funds.
  • Do not rely on caller ID to authenticate the caller, as criminals can change how caller IDs display.
  • Do not install any software suggested by the caller.
The security of HP customers' devices and personal information is a top priority for HP. HP does not contact customers to provide unsolicited technical support. If you believe you have been contacted by a scammer and are concerned about your personal information, run a virus scan on your computer or device, or contact your security software provider for assistance.

Thanks.
