Digital Sender Flow 8500 fn1

I have a new Digital Sender Flow 8500 fn1 that I was configuring using the embeded web server a few weeks ago.  One day I came in and the system was getting errors booting.  30.01.40 Scanner Communication Failed.  I got past that by making sure all the network config was right and connectors were on but then I could not access the built in web server.  My brower just times out.

I have

1) upgraded firmware

2) verified network settings and I can ping

3) changed network settings (and I can still ping)

4) tried multiple browsers and machines and even installed a new windows OS on brand new machine

5) reset factory settings (its interesting that the network setting are sitll there after it comes back on line)

6) tried to admin with hp webjet admin.  when i scan for devices, it sees there is a device on the network but it does not enumerate the device.  webjet admin does see other devices however.

I am at my wits end with this thing.  it sits on an isolated lan not connected to the internet.  static IP4V configuration.

I cannot find the maintainence mode codes - i only know the admin password (its still the default)

I cannot figure out how to reset it so that its factory fresh like it came out of the box (i.e. after factory reset the ip, hostname etc is still there)

Here is what im asking for:

How can I get the maint login codes?

how can I reset the device like its brand new (restore the OS on the hard drive)

Any other trouble shooting tips?

Hello!

You can reset the device to Factory settings by accesing the Pre-boot menu with the next buttons combination:

Access the Preboot menu

  1. Turn the product on.
  2. Press and hold the Stop  button when the LED lights are illuminated solid (You will also see "1/8" underneath the HP Logo).
  3. Use the keyboard to navigate the menu.
  4.  Select Adminstration >Clean disk or Partial Clean.

NOTE: These steps will erase all data and configuration on the scanner.

 * You can update the device Firmware after performing the reset.

- IF THE PROBLEM PERSITST, please contact HP Tech Support. This might be a Hardware Failure with the Scanner assembly in your device.

I have  a technician coming to repair/replace the unit.  I thought the Clean option would wipe the OS on the drive basically bricking the system.

Thanks for replying.

The Hard Disk Drive in these Digital Sender Scanners is the one that stores the Firmware. There is an Active and also a Repository Partition that will store different Firmware data.

There are as well different types of resets to either delete the Active partition, or both Active & Repository Partitions. You can also perform a Format Disk initialization in order to erase the Firmware from the unit.

---You will need to download the latest Firmware file onto an empty, not bigger that 16GB, USB thumbdrive prior to perform the reset.

* Here are the Steps:

1. Turn the Scanner On. Press the STOP key when the Ready, Data and Attention LEDs illuminate solid.

2. Use the Keyboard to navigate the menus.

3. Go to 3. Administrator > Format Disk. Hit "OK" to accept.

4. Go back to "Continue" and press the OK. You will have an error code "99.09.XX Device not Bootable".

***CONNECT THE USB THUMBDRIVE WITH THE FIRMWARE FILE.

5. Press any key. Go to 3. Administrator > 1. Download > 3. USB Thumbdrive.

6. Select the file and wait for it to complete transferring all the data to the HDD.

7. Press letter "B" in the keyboard to go back -3 times- and then hit Enter on top of continue.

All the data will be lost. The device will boot up with a completely new/fresh operating system (Firmware).

If the error persists it might be a Hardware Failure.
