I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 6978. When using the HP scan app to scan a photo, the scanned photo lacks detail, contains artifacts and inaccurate color reproduction due to the aggressive enhancement filters. This is only part of the problem. The other issue is lossy compression present in the scan. When I save as a bitmap, the resulting file contains JPEG artifacts, even though bitmap is lossless, so the printer must be compressing the image before it gets sent to the computer. How do I disable both the image enhancements and lossy compression so that I have an untouched scan that can be used in Photoshop? I looked through the settings in the scan app, but couldn't find any adjustments. I ended up scanning the same photo with my 13 year old Canon Pixma MP560, which did exactly what I wanted.
