Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Someone else has undoubtedly brought this up.

I already feel that having to download an app and make an account in order to use a product that I own is ridiculous (otherwise it's just a paperweight) but I guess that comes with the territory of the wireless age.  So, fine.  I can't use my printer without wifi?  Also stupid but again, wireless age.  Not very "smart" when living in a part of the country that experiences a lot of power outages, but I digress... When going to use the device for its intended purposes (scanning, printing, etc.), I cannot do so without logging in EVERY TIME?  Why is this?  Why is there no "keep me logged in" option?  This isn't a printer at a public library, for crying out loud.  My printer is used at home mainly for attending college online - that means making a lot of scans.  This extra step of logging in really makes a difference when I have to take a quiz and scan it in in the allotted time.  Every moment is precious...do we really need to have this extra step, every time?

It is beyond being a minor inconvenience; It just seems downright senseless and unnecessary.  I thought the whole purpose of going wireless was to simplify and streamline routine, workaday tasks.  If I knew about all of this hassle and disadvantages back when I was choosing my printer, I would have tried to find a regular, wired printer.

Am I missing something?  Is there a secret way to stay logged in?  Doesn't seem like it.

Please amend this and get rid of the log in for every use.

I don't know about the original request, but I have the same problem. My printer is HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series (3UK84A) and I'm running on MacOS Monterey 12.6. My firmware version is MANHTNPP1N002.2211C.00. I'm not sure how to find the version of app I'm using, but the app store does not have any additional updates available. Why does it log me out every time that my laptop goes to sleep. Then when you open the app, it must force open a Safari window (which I don't like Safari anyway). It takes what feels like minutes of scrolling wheels to open all of the necessary pages to finally enter a password. I could have just taken a pic with my iPhone instead of trying to use an hp printer. Please help to understand how to resolve this and keep my HOME LAPTOP connected to my HOME PRINTER. (Note: connection is home wifi for both laptop and printer. No updates to OS/Firmware/etc have been done that would have caused the app to log out. No error messages are displayed other than you are not logged in to an active account.)
