Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer series
Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

For two days my document feeder will not pick up paper to copy.  I cleaned all the rollers I have access to, but seems to be happening right at the start with the paper in the feed trap.  I don't know how to access that.

I went to a friend's house to use his 8710 that doesn't have this problem.  I had tried to lift the "bonnet" on mine, but was afraid I might break something.  This strategy wasn't in the video I saw for fixing a paper jam.  However, with you recommendation that it was OK to lift it, I tried it on my friend's 8710.  It worked and his area is free of any paper.  I'll try this on my 8720 when I get back and send another reply.  Thank you!

I will try and assist.Normally the top part there you input the pages lifts like a bonnet to reach the rollers.It might also be that there is something stuck in the paper path should the rollers try to pull the paper into the document feeder.Hope this will help.
