Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I have a CLX3185 Samsung (now HP) printer scanner connected to a PC under Windows 10. The scanner was running pretty good and today, I scanned a document using ScanAssistant_1.05.07. The scan worked fine, recording started and stopped 3/4 of the way through. The bargraph got stuck and wouldn't continue.

I had to use the scan function available by right-clicking on the printer icon but it's not very practical.

So the scanner works fine, but it's the recording function that's at fault.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Scanassistant without result

I uninstalled and reinstalled Samsung_CLX-3180_Series_SPD_V3.11.34.00.18 without result.

I tried to use HP print and scan doctor 5.0.18 but it doesn't recognize my serial number and doesn't find any HP devices (Samsung is HP though)

If somebody has an idea ?

I understand you are facing an issue with your Samsung CLX-3180 (CLX-3185) is now supported by HP but not fully recognized by HP software like the Print and Scan Doctor, we can try a few other troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with the ScanAssistant software freezing during document saving:
 

Run in Compatibility Mode:

  • Since this model was originally released by Samsung, try running ScanAssistant in compatibility mode.
  • Right-click the ScanAssistant application, go to Properties > Compatibility tab, and check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 7. Apply changes and try scanning again.

Check Permissions:

  • Ensure that ScanAssistant has the necessary permissions to write files. Right-click the application, select Run as Administrator, and then test the scan and save process.

Change Scan Resolution or Format:

  • Try adjusting the scan resolution or file format to see if this affects the saving process. Sometimes, large files or specific formats may cause issues with older software.

Test with Windows Fax and Scan:

  • If you haven’t already, try scanning using Windows Fax and Scan. Go to Start > Windows Accessories > Windows Fax and Scan, and see if the scan and save process completes successfully. This could provide a stable alternative to the ScanAssistant.

Alternative Scanning Software:

  • Consider using third-party software like NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner 2), which often works well with a variety of scanners and provides simple scanning and saving options. It may offer more stability than ScanAssistant on Windows 10.

Update Device Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check the HP support site to see if there’s any firmware update available for the Samsung CLX-3180 series. Updating the firmware could improve compatibility with Windows 10.

Check the Save Directory Permissions:

  • Ensure the folder where you’re saving the scanned files has no permission restrictions. Try setting it to a different folder, such as Documents, and see if the saving completes successfully.

Hi,

Thank you for anwering, I've tried the proposed solutions :

 

  • Run in Compatibility Mode: no result
  • Check Permissions: no result
  • Change Scan Resolution or Format: no result
  • Test with Windows Fax and Scan: OK
  • Alternative Scanning Software: OK(NAPS2)
  • Check the Save Directory Permissions: no result
  • Update Device Firmware: not already done

Then, for me it's OK, I'll use NAPS2, I accept this as a solution.
