Product: M283 multifunction LaserJet Printer
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

Potentially stupid question alert:  I'm interested in the M283 multifunction printer/scanner/copier.  The M283 spec sheet says it offers duplex printing & copying, but doesn't specify duplex scanning. Seems weird that it would have duplex copying, but not duplex scanning as I *assume* that both would use the ADF.  Chat support was helpful in pointing me to the appropriate spec sheets, as well as pointing to a more expensive multifunction device, M479, but they could only tell me what the spec sheets say.  Does anyone out there with an M283 know if it does provide duplex scanning in addition to duplex copying?  Many thanks.

The spec sheets show no duplex ability for copying so likely this unit only has a single sided scanner. It is easy to confirm, go to make a copy and see if there is an option for 2 sided - 2 sided and if not then there is no duplex scanning and you would likely be limited to manually double siding by flipping the page over on the glass. This is not as unusual as you may think, especially on inexpensive home series printers where price is really the determining factor for many who purchase.

Hi,

The printer only provides Two-Sided print capabilities, ti does not offer automatic two-sided copying or scanning of an original.

 

You may find its specifications below, it clearly states two-sided printing only:

Hi Shlomil - the online spec doesn't list duplex copying, but the downloadable PDF spec sheet (MFP_M283-4aa7-7832enuc.pdf) says:

Copy speed Black     Copy speed: Up to 22 cpm; Copy speed Duplex: Up to 13 cpm

Copy speed Color     Copy speed: Up to 22 cpm; Copy speed Duplex: Up to 13 cpm

 

so I'm trying to reach someone who has the device to find out if it can scan duplex in addition to copying duplex...

Hi,

The specifications refer to printing two-sided of a copy, which results in a slower speed considering 2 printouts per a page, it doesn't indicate any support for two-sided copying of an original, the printer is not capable to copy or scan both sides of an original automatically.
