HP Officejet 4650 all-in-one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Does anyone else have problems with an ADF not working in Windows 10 Pro but it does work for eprint?  My device is an HP Officejet 4650 all-in-one MFD (yeah right, multi function device isn't what this acronym means to me...) My device is set up wireless and the only platform that is installed for the printer is the web print software and the drivers are local but it's not a local printer configuration.  Reason being is I'm part of the Windows Insider fast ring and with all the subsequent roll-outs all the ports and other printer configurations were conflicting.  The printer is using a windows WSD driver for WIA options and I can't seem to find an isolated scan driver for this specific printer.

If anyone else has had the same issue and found a work-around please let me know.

Not sure, it sounds like you have not installed the Full Feature Software for the printer.

In general, lack of Full Feature Software does not affect using the ADF.

The Basics here:

 How to Scan (Windows)

The instructions do indicate that you should install the Full Feature Software

There are, however, scan options other than using HP Scan (part of the Full Feature Software).

Try / Consider

Webscan

Webscan is located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

If the printer is on the network,

  • Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
  • Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > make sure Webscan is checked / enabled
  • Tab Scan > Webscan(Does not require installed printer software)

HP Smart Printer Application for Windows 10

Looking for the HP Smart Application for Windows 10?

For some situations, the HP Smart App provides all the print environment and setup you need to use your printer.

Add your printer to your network.

Open the Software and Drivers Support Website for your printer > Check the Box Get the App

OR

Get the App from the Windows Store (includes a link to the store and an FAQ section)

Adobe Reader DC – Needed Whether You Use It or Not

If you have not done so,

Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC /Optional  Foxit Reader)

HINT:  Watch out for and UNCHECK unwanted extra software

Adobe Reader DC software should be installed even if you do not open / view / print PDF files directly from the software.

I have tried every possible scenario you have described here without good results.  It seems that with the new Windows Insider developments, printers weather hard devices or virtual printers such as Windows print to pdf and xps document printer compete with each other for default positioning control.  At one time I had like 12 ports competing and conflicting with each other and using the HP printer with the full feature software puts 3 or 4 versions of the printer in the print folder and fight for control as well as cloud printing.  It's crazy, I had to delete all the virtual printers and ports as well as the cloud printing and the local printer just to be able to manage 1 cue instead of searching where the print job went.  Granted, the full feature printer software didn't have a problem using the ADF locally but without the interface because of the driver the ADF doesn't work with the Windows driver for scanning.  I looked for a stand-alone driver for the scanner option but without success.  I think if I can isolate the scan option with an HP scan driver it would solve the issue but I don't know where to look.
