Hi @jjbell7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 (or any other printer with a similar issue) indicates that the scanner door is open when it is not, it can be due to several reasons such as a sensor malfunction, debris obstructing the sensor, or a software glitch. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn Off the Printer:
    • Use the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the Printer:
    • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for 60 Seconds:
    • Leave the printer unplugged for at least one minute.
  4. Plug Back In:
    • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the back of the printer.
  5. Turn On the Printer:
    • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

2. Inspect the Scanner Door and Latch

  1. Open and Close the Scanner Door:
    • Carefully open the scanner door and close it firmly to ensure it is properly latched.
  2. Check for Obstructions:
    • Inspect the scanner door and the area around the latch for any debris or small objects that might prevent the door from closing properly. Clean the area if necessary.
  3. Inspect the Latch and Sensor:
    • Look for the door latch mechanism and the sensor that detects whether the door is closed. Ensure the latch moves freely and the sensor is not damaged or obstructed.

3. Reset the Printer

  1. Perform a Semi-Full Reset:
    • If the basic steps don't work, you might need to perform a semi-full reset. This should restore factory settings but will remove all custom settings and configurations:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • On the printer's touchscreen, tap the back button (arrow) four times to open a hidden support menu.
    • Navigate to the Reset menu and select Semi-Full Reset.
    • Confirm the action and wait for the printer to restart.

4. Update Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support page for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 and download any available firmware updates.
  2. Install the Firmware Update:
    • Follow the instructions to install the firmware update on your printer.

5. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Download the tool from the HP Support page.
  2. Run the Tool:
    • Open the tool and select your printer.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix any issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
