HP ENVY 6420e All-in-One Printer

Hello together*

Unfortunately my Photosmart 7520 All In One Printer "died" a few days ago and i had to buy a new one. SInce i was quite satisified with my old printer i decided to purchase an HP-Printer again.

I was quite surprised, in a negative way, that the new printer does not automatically arrange the pages in the correct sequence when performing double sided scans. This now needs to be done manually!

What is the target behind removing an absolutely useful and since years well performing function in a new printer generation?

You are welcome.

Compact / Small HP Scan

The original HP Scan lacked the ability to be made larger on very high resolution screens.

While not an issue on (for example, 1920 X 1080), tiny HP Scan menu on high resolution screens is difficult to see and use.

As to the functionality, the HP Universal Scan (shortcut on Desktop called / named "HP Scan") is actually a bit smarter in some ways when compared to the old HP Scan software.  It's made to operate in a variety of display environments and includes some interesting settings not available on the original version of HP Scan.

On the Desktop,

  • The original HP Scan shortcut is named for the printer it supports (and the software with which it was installed).

and

  • HP Universal Scan (shortcut) is named for itself, that is, the name of the shortcut is "HP Scan".

If the HP Scan / HP Universal Scan works, use that.

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Newer printers support a wider range of devices - for example, Windows PCs, Tablets, and Phones.

The applications vary -- True - At this writing, HP Smart (Windows or Mobile) does not reorder pages of scanned content.

Example

HP Envy 6055e | 6455e| HP Envy 6420| 6455: How to Scan using HP Smart  Single Page Scan

True, too, that not every printer includes the features you might have had previously.

The Envy printer supports page-reorder on a supported Windows machine, running a supported version of the Operating System, and with the installation of the full driver printer software (formally called the Full Feature Software).

The full driver printer software includes HP Scan -

Although perhaps a newer version than the HP Scan you used with the Photosmart printer, HP Scan includes most of the same features and perhaps some new options, too.

HP Scan can reorder your scanned content.

Sample

HP Envy Pro 6400 All-in-One Printer Series: Scan 2-sided documents and automatically sort page order

General Example - Windows - Full Driver Printer Software installed

HP Scan - Menu - Page Sides = 2-sided manual and More > Destination

What else?

This printer supports -- in Windows and running a supported version of the Operating System - a newer version of HP Scan:  HP Universal Scan

HP Universal Scan can be installed after the full driver printer software or as a standalone program.

If asked, opt for the Full Driver to be installed.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.
