Double-sided scanning: HP Smart vs. Easy Scan

For Mac, HP Easy Scan seems to be no longer available and HP Smart is recommended instead. But for double-sided scanning Easy Scan seems to have a big advantage. With each app you have to put the pages through twice, once for the front sides and once for the back sides. Easy Scan will automatically intersperse the images so you get a file with the pages in correct order: from, back, front, back, etc. With HP (not so) Smart, you have to intersperse the pages by hand. Does anybody have a better solution?

You're right — HP Easy Scan previously offered a convenient feature for manual double-sided scanning, where it could automatically interleave front and back pages into the correct order. We understand how valuable this was, especially for users who frequently scan duplex documents using a single-sided scanner.

As of recent updates, HP Smart has become the recommended scanning application for macOS. While it offers a modern interface and broader compatibility, it currently does not support automatic interleaving of manually scanned duplex pages.

While HP Smart does not yet include this feature, here are a few options:

1. Use HP Easy Scan (if still installed)
   If you previously had HP Easy Scan installed and it still works on your macOS version, you can continue using it. It remains the most seamless solution for this workflow.
    
2. Use Preview to Reorder Pages
   After scanning front and back pages separately in HP Smart, you can open both PDFs in Preview, drag and drop pages to reorder them, and save as a single file.
