Hi, I have an HP OfficeJet 4630 MFD. I keep being caught out when trying to manage double-sided or two-sided scanned or copied output.
After yet another hour or two of searching around today, I've found a key answer again - the document feeder on an HP OfficeJet 4630 is NOT a duplex handler - so it cannot take an original and turn it over to scan or copy the other side.
IMHO a lot of the confusion comes about because the print handler CAN handle two-sided output. A useful feature to have, but causes this confusion.
So, no matter what software you have, an HP OfficeJet 4630 will NOT automatically produce two-sided scan output from two-sided documents using the document feeder.
It might be possible to fiddle about and create multi-page scan files with manual input (handling) but this printer/scanner CANNOT automatically produce multi-page scanned output from a multi-page two-sided original.
I hope this helps save some people time and emotional energy chasing after something that simply does not exist. The OfficeJet 4630 product does a good job for me but is not the machine if multi-page paper input and output documentation is important to you.

This is correct, of course.
Your post will likely helping someone looking and looking for the same information.
Thanks for that.
For those reading:
What about the automatic Two-Sided Scan Option?
Two-sided automatic print is pretty common on Envy and OfficeJet / OfficeJet Pro printers.
Two-sided automatic scan (using ADF) is not as often included.
Most (inkjet) printers with ADF do offer automatic single sided scan from ADF
OR
For those printers lacking the ADF, single sided scan via the flatbed.
Two-sided copy is not quite to rare.
Two-sided single pass scan is available on one or more of top-of-line printers.
For example (at this writing), HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 includes Two-Sided Scan from ADF.
How to find out??
The information might be included in the Specifications and certainly in the product Datasheet.
Example Open Browser and Search for "OfficeJet Pro 9025 Datasheet"
Result document:
HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 - Datasheet
Scan type / Technology Easy slide-off glass, single-pass 2-sided ADF - Contact Image Sensor (CIS)
Copier settings Number of Copies; Two-Sided; Lighter/Darker; HP Copy Fix; ID Copy; Resize; Quality; PaperSize; Paper Type; Collate; Margin Shift; Crop; Copy Preview; Tray Select; Enhancements
Another way to check for what the printer can do:
If the printer is on your network,
If the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is supported for your printer,
(Scan)
If your printer includes an ADF and the Webscan feature,
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Scan > Webscan
EWS_9025_Webscan_1
What about Copy?
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Copy > Settings > Default Settings / Copy Defaults (wording can vary)
EWS_9025_Copy_Defaults_4
What else?
If the Full Feature Software is installed for your printer (Windows),
Open HP Scan to check options.
Example
9025_HP_Scan_Menu_PDF_3
What about everyone else?
For those printers that do not include the automatic two-sided scan option,
You can still scan two-sided documents, but you must do so manually.
