Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I purchased this multi-function printer, the Envy 7640 e, based on the fact that it is intended to scan a variety of sources and export the images/documents in myriad formats. This is actually for fine art purposes, and I am hoping for the most lossless options-ideally, an uncompressed TIF file at 1200 dpi. I'm accustomed to the Epson V600 for these sorts of things, but am constrained to this device for the moment. Any advice would be appreciated, as I'm trying to preserve as much information as possible from the source images. Thank you,

Hi @ARTHURBLACK6485,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are looking for help with best quality scan from your printer.

It sounds like you're looking to maximize the quality of your scans with the Envy 7640. While this printer is versatile, its scanning capabilities can be somewhat limited compared to dedicated scanners like the Epson V600. Here are a few tips to help you get the best results:

Check Software Settings: Make sure you are using the HP scanning software or the HP Smart app. Look for any advanced settings that might allow you to change the file format from JPEG to TIFF or another option.

Scan at High Resolution: Set your scanning resolution to the maximum (1200 dpi) in the settings. This can often help maintain detail even if you’re limited to JPEG.

Explore Third-Party Software: If the HP software doesn’t allow TIFF exports, consider using third-party scanning software (like VueScan or SilverFast) that might support your printer and offer more flexibility in terms of file formats.

Scan as PDF: If TIFF isn’t available, scanning as a PDF may preserve quality better than JPEG. You can then convert the PDF to TIFF using conversion software if needed.

Adjust Image Quality: If you're stuck with JPEG, ensure you're using the highest quality settings available to minimize compression artifacts.

Post-Processing: If you do end up with JPEGs, consider using image editing software to adjust and save as TIFF afterward, which might help you retain more detail during edits.

Consider File Size and Bit Depth: When you have the option, select settings that prioritize file size and bit depth (16-bit if available) for better quality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day
