HP Smart updated the software and now my scan editing function is not working.  After cropping and clicking "Done" the image reverts to the original scan.  After rotating and cropping, it may revert to the original or rotate to the proper position but block out 80% of the scan with a block of color.  Pink, black and white have all been seen.  I have reinstalled the software 3 times to no avail.  I am desperate.  I rely heavily on this function for work, and it is piling up!

ANY CHANCE OF ACTUALLY TALKING TO AN HP REP?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Since HP Smart is not working as expected, we'd suggest to try the HP FULL Featured software, you can download and install it from this link:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series/...

After successful installation, you can use the HP Scan for your needs.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestion!  Very much appreciated, however, I have tried to install the Full Feature version 3 times, and it only loads the Basic.  Now I know my computer is hardly state-of-the-art, but it was working just fine before the software update.  I am seriously not in the market for a new computer when this one did exactly what I wanted it to until now.  If there is anything I can do to avoid the expense of a new computer, I will be happy to try it!

Any further suggestions would be a big help.  THANK YOU in advance!

Hi,

Do you get the HP Printer Assistant and HP Scan on the desktop?

I know it says basic drivers when installing but if you downloaded from the link, it's the FULL software!

Thanks

Yes, I do, but  I am still not able to use the editing function.  The rotational aspect seems to be working now, but the cropping is still leaving me with blocks of color over the text.  Now, it looks as if there are stripes of color rather than a solid block.

I do appreciate your help!  Any further suggestions?

I am able to print just fine and the scanning function seems to be working as well.  It is just the editing function after scanning that seems to be malfunctioning.  I have downloaded the Full version a number of times with the link you sent.  (That one seemed to be the most successful as the rotational aspect worked.)

I really need some new suggestions.

Thanks!

So now the rotational aspect is kaplooie again.  Sorry for all the messages, but I am desperate!

Hi @MRPHollister

Sorry to hear it didn't work.

Can only think of another solution - scan and then open up in Photos or Paint to Rotate then Save the file.

More tedious until there's another update that fixes the issue.

Thanks.

Thank you.  I will try that.

I realize you are speaking for yourself, but have a question about HP's support.  I have had HP printers for more than 20 years.  I have always been able to speak with an employee about any difficulties I have run across.  Now, it seems impossible to speak with a human being.  Do you have any suggestions on how I might reach someone?  Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

@MRPHollister

You may reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for assistance. If the printer is out of warranty, you may have to pay for the support.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
