Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I tried to scan something from the flatbed of my All-in-One via HP Smart, I got an error saying the printer is offline.  It isn't offline since the OS shows it and I can print to it.   I downloaded and ran the Print & Scan Doctor 5.3, which - after confirming that it can see my printer and communicating with it - for scanning problems said there was a SW update available.  So I downloaded that.  The Doctor then brought up a screen that allows me to select the printer(s) to direct the update to.  I only have one printer.  It is showing,  but the screen won't allow me to select the printer's check box.  (Selecting the line with the printer info highlights it. That's all.)  With nothing checked, the Update button remains grayed out - so I cannot install.

 

Tried this several times. Help

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers. 
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer driver

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

Assign manual IP address and that should fix the issue.

Touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch ( Setup ), touch Reports , and then touch Network configuration Page.

 

Setting a Static IP Address

Once you know your printer’s IP address, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:

HP Printer Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wireless.
  5. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  6. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  7. Click Apply.

I should have clarified that this is a desktop PC connected to the printer via USB.  No wireless. HP Smart says the printer is offline, but I can print.  I can't scan though.

 

I went through the Print and Scan Doctor approach again, but no change.  It sees the printer, but does not allow me to select it to load the update.

 

Print and Scan Doctor doesn't show me  a Dashboard > Setup > Reports option.  If I'm connected via USB, does the IP address even matter?

 

Still no scanning.

Okay, here's the odd solution.

 

When I selected the printer from Devices and Printers, one option there was to run HP Smart.  Figured I'd give it a try.  When I ran THAT HP Smart, no problems scanning.  The one from my Start Menu, still problems.  Go figure.  So more a problem with the app than the printer itself.
