Please help setting up Easy Scan.  It hangs up after updating its last version.  I reset the printer system preferences, updated the software, reset the printer itself but keeps hanging up when trying to scan with the Easy Scan app.  I am able to scan from the Printer and Scanners system preferences and with the HP Smart app,  The issue may be with the presets.  The mode setting shows No Value for all presets.  This leads to suspect that the s/w may be hanging up because it is unable to find a missing value in the presets.

A similar iMac M1 runs the Easy Scan app perfectly well.  This also leads me to believe that a settings file on the iMac that cannot run Easy Scan may not be getting renewed when the software is reinstalled.

Any ideas to solve this problem are appreciated.

I understand you've already tried several troubleshooting steps to address the issue with the HP Easy Scan app on your MacOS Monterey system. Since you suspect that the problem might be related to settings files not being renewed properly during reinstallation, 

 

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

 

Remove Preferences Files: Sometimes, preferences files can become corrupted, causing issues with applications. You can try removing the preferences files associated with the HP Easy Scan app. These files are usually located in the user's Library/Preferences folder. Look for files related to HP Easy Scan and move them to the Trash. Then, try restarting the Easy Scan app to see if it resolves the issue.

Reinstall HP Easy Scan: Completely uninstall the HP Easy Scan app from your system, ensuring that all associated files and directories are removed. Then, download the latest version of HP Easy Scan from the official HP website and reinstall it on your MacOS Monterey system.

Check Permissions: Make sure that the HP Easy Scan app has the necessary permissions to access your scanner and other system resources. You can check and adjust these permissions in the System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.

 

1. Remove and Reinstall HP Easy Scan:

  • Uninstall: Open Finder > Applications. Find HP Easy Scan and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash.
  • Reinstall: Download the latest version of HP Easy Scan from the HP website for your specific printer model and macOS version. Install the downloaded application.
  • Check Presets: After reinstalling, open the HP Easy Scan app and see if the "No Value" issue in the presets has been resolved.

2. Reset Printing System:

  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 6958 printer and select Reset Printing System.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset.
  • Restart your computer and re-add your printer.

3. Check for Software Conflicts:

  • If the issue persists, consider software conflicts with other applications. Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software and try using Easy Scan again.
  • If disabling other software resolves the issue, identify the conflicting program and keep it disabled while using Easy Scan or find an alternative that doesn't cause conflicts.
