HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer

Our Envy 6055e makes a constant buzzing sound every two seconds. I believe I’ve narrowed this down to the scanner. By very slightly lifting the top of the scanner without waking it from sleep, the scanner light is turning on every second, making the high pitched sound. 

is there a fix for this? I can’t imagine this is good for the scanner, or power savings, plus it’s annoying.

The constant buzzing sound from the scanner in your HP Envy 6055e printer while it is in sleep mode is indeed unusual and could be indicative of a problem. Here’s how you can address it:

  • Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the issue persists.

**2. Update Firmware

  • Go to the HP Support website and look for firmware updates for your specific model (Envy 6055e). Follow the instructions to download and install the update.

**3. Check Printer Settings

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
  • Go to the printer settings and look for any options related to sleep mode or power management. Adjust these settings to see if it helps reduce the noise.

**4. Inspect and Reset the Scanner

  • Check if the scanner glass is clean and free from any obstructions.
  • Perform a reset of the printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes resolve issues related to hardware behavior.
    • To reset: Go to the printer’s menu (using the display or HP Smart app) and look for an option to restore factory settings. Confirm the reset and follow the on-screen instructions.

**5. Disable Auto-Sleep Features

  • If the issue is related to the printer's sleep mode, you might be able to adjust the sleep settings or disable them temporarily to see if it alleviates the problem.
  • Check the HP Smart app or the printer’s built-in menu for sleep mode settings.
