Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

HP Envy 6165e, just bought over the holidays.  Has been working fine up until 3 days ago.  Have no issue printing from any site (Word, Ebay, email).  Scanning has been the issue.  Worked fine and then all of a sudden the only place I could scan from was HP Smart.  I tried going through Printer/Scanner settings on computer, clicked Manage for the scanner and it says to connect a scanner.  I tried scanning through an app I use (Trading Card Scanner) was working fine then stopped and couldn't find the scanner anymore.  I turned off and unplugged, worked for about 4 hours and then same thing.  Again, printing is not an issue, only the scanner.  Any thoughts?

Hi @neckababy1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for the detailed background and for already trying power resets—that’s incredibly helpful. Since printing works but scanning fails outside the HP App, the issue likely lies with Windows’ scanner interface or driver communication.

Let’s walk through a precise recovery path to restore full scanning functionality.

1. Power reset the printer and clear memory

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on and wait until it’s fully idle.

2. Remove and reinstall the printer completely

This ensures Windows resets its scanner associations:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your HP Envy 6165e > Remove device.
  • Press Windows + R, type printui /s /t2, and press Enter.
  • In the Print Server Properties window, remove all drivers related to HP Envy 6100 series.

3. Reinstall using the full driver and scan software

  • Download the HP Envy 6165e Full Software Solution from this official page:
HP Envy 6100e Series – Software and Drivers

Choose Windows 11 as your OS and install the full package, not just the basic driver.

4. Confirm Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Ensure it’s set to Automatic and is Running.
  • If not, right-click > Properties, set Startup type to Automatic, and click Start.

5. Add scanner manually if needed

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click Add device, wait for your printer to appear, and select it.
  • If it doesn’t appear, click Add manually > Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
  • Choose Use an existing port, select the correct USB or TCP/IP port, and install the HP driver.

6. Test scanning from Windows Fax and Scan

  • Press Windows + S, search for Windows Fax and Scan, and open it.
  • Click New Scan and select your HP Envy 6165e from the scanner list.
  • If it scans here, third-party apps should also detect it again.

You can also refer to this HP support article for scanner detection issues:

Once these steps are complete, try scanning again from your Trading Card Scanner app. Let’s get your scanning workflow back to smooth and seamless.
