I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To troubleshoot and fix the "Scan function has been disabled" error on your HP Smart Tank 790, follow these steps:

1. Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off your printer and computer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for about a minute, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer and check if the error persists.

2. Check for Software and Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Open the HP Smart app or go to the HP Support website.
  • Check for any available updates for your printer's firmware and software.
  • Install any updates and restart your printer and computer.

3. Check Printer Connections

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your network or computer.
  • If using a USB connection, make sure the cable is securely plugged in.
  • If using a wireless connection, ensure your printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

4. Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Open your computer's settings and go to the "Printers & Scanners" section.
  • Remove the HP Smart Tank 790 from the list of printers.
  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Install the drivers and add the printer again.

5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows) HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix any issues with your printer.

6. Reset Printer to Factory Settings

  • On your printer's control panel, navigate to the settings menu.
  • Look for an option to restore factory settings or reset the printer.
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.
  • Reconfigure the printer settings and check if the scan function is restored.

7. Check for Any Specific Error Codes

  • If there's a specific error code displayed with the "Scan function has been disabled" message, look it up on the HP Support website for detailed troubleshooting steps.
