Hi @CHRISTINE718,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I believe you are having issues with the fax function on your printer, and the diagnostic indicates that the fax component may be damaged. Since you have already removed the cartridges and performed a hard reset without success, let us go through this step by step.

As the printer is around 10 years old, it is possible that the fax hardware may have developed a fault over time. However, before confirming that, I would need a little more information.

Please share the following:

The exact printer model name and number
The operating system you are using
Any specific error message displayed on the printer screen

In the meantime, please try the following:

Step 1: Check phone line connection

Ensure the telephone cable is securely connected to the 1 LINE port on the printer.
Connect the phone cord directly to a wall jack without using splitters or adapters.
Test the wall jack with a regular telephone to confirm there is a dial tone.

Step 2: Perform a partial reset

Turn the printer off.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Wait for 60 seconds.
Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
Turn the printer back on and test the fax function again.

Step 3: Check fax settings

On the printer control panel, verify that fax is enabled.
Check that the country or region setting is correct.
Make sure the fax number and settings are properly configured.
