Restart the printer with a full power reset
– With the printer turned on, unplug the power cable from the back and from the wall.
– Wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and let it fully restart.

Update the printer’s firmware
– On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
– Outdated firmware can cause the Fax menu to freeze or not reload properly.

Check the Fax connection setup
– Go to Fax → Fax Settings → Fax Setup and confirm the line type and connection.
– Incorrect line settings can cause the fax feature to lock or fail to initialize.

Print a Fax Test Report
– Under Fax → Fax Reports → Run Fax Test.
– If the test shows failures, follow the on-screen notes to correct line or signal issues.

Turn off any Energy Saving or Sleep Mode delays
– Go to Setup → Preferences → Energy Saver or Sleep Mode.
– Set it to the longest delay or disable it temporarily to see if Fax returns properly after waking.

Reset Fax Settings
– In Fax Settings, choose “Restore Fax Settings” or “Reset Fax Defaults.”
– This refreshes the fax configuration without resetting the whole printer.

Avoid using the touchscreen during startup
– Wait until the printer loads fully before pressing Fax.
– Interrupting initialization can cause the Fax app to hang.
