OfficeJet 6700
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This machine has worked with no problems receiving faxes automatically, without any interaction by us.  Now, it won't receive faxes unless I hit the "accept" button while the fax is being received - although auto answer (or accept) is on.  It sends outbound faxes ok.  We have done power off, unplug, power on.  We have done factory reset on the settings.  We have played with all the settings - still won't pick up and receive the fax (unless we hit "accept").

Please help.

Hi @Passat,

Let me take moment to thank you for posting your query in the HP community.I understand that you are not able to receive faxes automatically. I will be delighted to assist you with this. Splendid diagnosis and superb analysis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after making any changes to your phone line?
  • Is voicemail enabled?

For now, try these steps:

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer first from this link:
  • Disable error correction mode.
  • Reduce the fax speed.
  • Disable voicemail or the answering machine.
  • Then set up the fax again and check.
  • Link: http://hp.care/2hx0f8r to set up Fax.

Now check if the issue gets resolved. If it does not work I will send you steps to perform a semi-full reset in a private message. Please keep checking your forum private message.

  • Then you could use the user guide http://hp.care/2hwTYto to set the Fax to receive automatically by referring to page 60.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Can I talk to a live person via phone. I think that would be easier for me.
