Printer introduced and generally available in mid 2011.

You are likely very familiar with this device and the User Guide.

I did not find much (if anything) that you do not already know.

The only thing that stands out (aside from the Auto-Answer feature having failed), is that the fax memory might be full  (Section Fax Troubleshooting - Page 239).   Although the explanation is not directly related to "auto answer", the result (not answering) might be related to the problem.  ?

What else?

The software for the printer is likely no longer fully compatible with the latest Windows 10 versions.  The printer software for Windows 10 is nearly four years old (and may be older inside the code).

That the old software has impacted the printer fax functions is a "leap" and not likely the case.  Considering, though, the age of the printer and the "not fully compatible" printer software, there might be a connection.

You could try the Printer Reset step in this document:

Afterwards, go through the Fax setup and try to switch on the Auto Answer feature.
