Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

i just got the HP 655 and all works, except faxing.

regardless of the fax setting I always get:

- dial

- connecting

- for about 30 sec nothing happens while “sending” is shown in the display

- than the message “error occurred. Fax not send” in the display and

- fax report gets printed with error code 344 and sometimes 345

when I run the function “test fax” everything is shown as OK

i reduced the speed to 9600 baud (slowest possible) and turned of “Error correction mode”

i use a Cisco SPA122 to get a tone dial analog line using a VoIP provider.

Note: faxing with the old printer (HP office jet 4620) works on the same line w/o any problem.

can anybody help with this issue?.

@LAT3, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

These could be the reasons for fax error 344/345:

  • Check for poor line conditions. Older phone lines, static on the line, power brownouts, or other power-related problems can cause communication failures. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

  • Stop key was pressed on the receiving fax machine before the fax completed. Contact the person receiving the fax to see if they are cancelling the transmission. If not, send the fax again but at a slower transmission speed.

  • A noise from call waiting service disrupted the call. Disable Error Correction Mode (ECM) if necessary.

Print a fax test report. The Fax Test Report lists the status of the fax function and steps to troubleshoot the function in case of a fax test failure.

  1. Load plain paper in the input tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch Fax.

  3. Swipe up on the display, and then touch Setup.

  4. Touch Tools, and then touch Test Fax.

For more info on faxing, refer to - How to fax with an HP printer or fax machine

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Hi KUMAR0307,

thanks for your message. As i described I'm using an IP phone service to send faxes, the analog connection I get using a SPA122 (which does the conversion from tone dial to "IP dialing") which has a LAN cable to the router. My previous HP officejet 4620 (which I still have) works on that line.

Meanwhile I dragged the HP655 to a neighbor and the fax function on the printer is working there.

The error reasons you have quoted I would on the web as well.

I'm out of ideas:

- the fax function on the HP655 is working (tested in another building, another phone line)

- the HP4620 I used before works on my line

- the HP655 doesn't work on the very same line the 4620 is working with.

Can I adjust the settings on the HP655 so it is less "sensitive"? I tried reducing the speed to the lowest possible (9600baud) but that doesn't change anything

Thanks

Regards

Lars
