Fax error after sending one or two pages. Occasionally works fine.

The machine is the Laser Jet Pro M283cdw. When trying to fax a document the machine will often get a transmission error after sending one or two pages. It then retries several times before quitting. It works sometimes but fails more often than it works. Is there a limit as to how long the phone cable can be from the printer to the wall? Added Information.
After reading several posts on same problem I tried to send in slow mode instead of medium. Still got error code 346. I wanted to change ECM from on to off but cannot find any place that allows me to change the setting. It is in the on position as reported in the fax test document. I need help on this one. Please.
I first posted this question over a week ago then updated it two days ago. I have not received any inputs. Am I posting correctly?

Hi @Al1426,
I'd like to help!
I understand you are receiving fax error 346.
This error means that the remote machine (the person you are faxing) failed to respond to a fax command from the local machine because the connection was interrupted. These errors can occur if the phone lines in the area to be faxed are old or there is noise (static on the phone line). Other reasons can include power outages and other power-related problems.
Retry the fax reception when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
