Hi @Donny01,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer is reporting that the fax component has become damaged, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Turn off the printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix known issues and improve device functionality. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings menu or by visiting the HP support website.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that all cables and connections related to the fax function are secure and properly connected. This includes telephone cables and any cables connecting the printer to a network or computer.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a factory reset on the printer to see if it resolves the issue. Keep in mind that this will reset all settings on the printer, so you may need to reconfigure it afterward.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
