HP ENVY Inspire 7224e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Following on from my “Ticking Clock” printer. The flatbed scanner in my new HP 7224e flashes repeatedly when not in use. My wife used the scanner in our old HP 5546 regularly, which didn’t flash when idle, but the rhythmic flashing of the new flatbed scanner triggered an epileptic seizure the first time she tried to use it. I think I’ll be returning this HP7224e to Curry’s.

Hi @MrB369,

Thank you for your response,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your HP Envy Inspire 7224e printer's scanner. It's understandable that a flashing light could be a problem.

Here are a few steps you can take to address the flashing scanner issue.

  • Check for Updates: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or on the HP website. Sometimes, HP releases updates that fix known issues.
  • Power Settings: Look for any settings related to power-saving modes or scanner idle behavior. Some printers allow you to adjust how they behave when not in use. This may be available in the printer's menu or through the HP Smart app.
  • Alternative Use: If it's safe to do so, consider using the printer's scanning function with the lid closed or using a different light source (e.g., using a blanket to cover the printer while in use) to minimize exposure to the flashing lights.
  • Environmental Adjustments: Ensure that the printer is in a location where the flashing light isn't directly visible to anyone who might be sensitive to it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

There are NO settings that modify this behaviour in any of the menus. It is foolish to suggest covering the printer with a blanket. To use the scanner the lid has to be lifted, which instantly exposes the flashing light, which induced my wife's seizure. Neither my previous product, an HP 5546 device, nor my other office printer, an HP 7830,  behave in this way. I WILL be returning the new HP 7224e printer to the retailer for either a repair, replacement or a refund. This "conversation" process is supposed to be with professionals, offering sensible practical solutions. You need to re-examine your procedures, or use more qualified personnel.
