Scanjet G4050
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have a Scanjet G4050 that has worked happily until I upgraded to MacOS 10.15 Catalina. I have installed the latest drivers and Easy Scan from HP. I have tried Easyscan, the "Open Scanner" button on the "Printers and Scanners" screen, and Image Capture. 

 

EasyScan offers to scan, but a pop-up says it failed to open a connection to the device.

 

Open Scanner results in the error code:  -21400

 

Image capture says it failed to open a connection with the same error code.

 

I have powered everything off and on, swapped USB cables with no joy. Can someone from HP say when working software will be released? (The window above that offers a drop-down list of operating systems does not include MacOS 10.15 Catalina, so I selected Mojave.)

HP Easy Scan is not currently supported in macOS Catalina.  HP is working with Apple to restore functionality.

 

For other devices the work around in Image Capture.  I, unfortunately, do not have a G4050 to test and have had no success with the ScanJet 200 I do have.

 

But you could try Image Capture and see if it works on the G4050 for retrieving pages from the scanner.
