HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

I have had an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer for 3 years. Immediately following the warranty expiring my computer is no longer able to communicate with the scanner. It prints so it knows the device is there. It just won't scan. I've done all the suggested remedies using the virtual assistant but it still doesn't recognize the scanner. Rather than buying another all in one printer,  I just purchased an "HP 1 Year Post Warranty."  Even though I paid for the post-warranty, my HP account is still telling me my warranty is expired. I printed the website confirmation but haven't received an email confirmation that was supposed to follow. The HP support page is worthless in that in order to contact support by telephone you have to have the extended warranty. I paid for it, but the site doesn't acknowledge it so I'm unable to contact support by phone. This is stupid stupid stupid. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea how I might be able to contact HP billing or support to get this cleared up without having to use a virtual assistant that offers no solution?

Hi @ChereT,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Splendid analysis and remarkable patience were shown. It is immensely appreciated.

the support here is limited to software troubleshooting. However, since the unit might need repair, I would request you to contact HP Phone support who would have the option to schedule a repair as per the warranty and the issue can be fixed.

For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

Please check your inbox on the forums page for the private message.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution button, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
