HP deskjet 3050 J610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer was installed and used for several years. It was connected wirelessly to one computer and through USB to another computer.  I only use it to print black and white documents.  I have no need for color printing.  The color cartridge dried out a long time ago.  But the printer could print, copy and scan without an issue.  Recently it would not print or copy unless a new color cartridge was put in.  Since I never do color printing it would be a great waste keep to continuously buying color cartridge and black ink cartridge.  So three months ago I bought another black and white laser printer.  I still used the HP 3050 J610 for scanning.  For over a month I have not used the HP 3050.  When I needed to scan a document yesterday, to my surprise the machine asked me to insert the CD into the computer to install the printer.  I did that and proceeded to follow the steps of installation.  I needed to put in the IP address of the printer.  It is supposed to be in the display on the front of the printer.  I did not see an IP address.  What I saw was "tri-color cartridge problem".

My questions:

Why did the printer refuse to print or copy black-and-white when color cartridge is dry?  It used to print without a new color cartridge

why did the machine stop scanning now?  It did scan over a months ago.

Where is the IP address of the painting?

I will thank people for giving me some instruction.

Jung

There is a difference in dried and problem colour ink cartridge. The printer can print with dried colour cartridge but of course, there will be no colour. If the printer reports a problem with ink cartridge then the user is unable to print, printers stop it's operation until problem with the cartridge is solved.

You may have windows system update and lost scanning capability, that happens a lot. After every update users have some driver related issues.

The printers IP address can be found on printers screen, you can find instructions on how to get to IP address in the user manual. If your printer is connected on the network you can log your router and check for the list of connected devices, the printer should be on that list with IP address.
