 i ve got a HP 3830 and a Siemens Gigaset 3035 phone.

Both share the same number, an answering machine is configured at the phone. I can receive Fax only manually. Auto answer is turned on. My phones Answering machine kicks in after 3 rings, fax after 5 rings. Supposedly it should be able to determine if it is a phone call or a fax, but it simply doesnt. How do i fix it?

@guadster, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Run a fax test ad check if all the tests pass.

 

Click on Fax > Setup > Preferences.

 

Ensure the Auto Answer option is set as On.

Also, ensure the Distinctive Ring option is set as All Rings and then check for any difference.

@Kumar0307, thanks for the reply. I already tried all of this, nothing works. Once the answering machine "picks up", there isno going back to the fax.

This could be because you are using a shared line for fax and phone. If available, use a dedicated fax line and check the auto-answer option.

You mean that the phone isnt connected to the fax anymore? Current setup is wall outlet to fax, fax to phone. You mean i should use a passive splitter?

In your initial post, you have mentioned that the fax and phone use the same number. This means it is a shared line.

I suggest getting a dedicated fax line/number or you may try to use a splitter first and check if that helps.
