Until very recently, there is a long delay between selecting the Scan option and the HP 4527 beginning the scan. Also, when pasting the image into a Microsoft 365 document, it turns out to consist of overlapping fragments.
This does not happen when pasting images that were scanned before late July 2026

Thank you for testing that and for sharing the results. @ruane1
Your findings are very helpful. Since the scanned image appears correctly in Paint and can be pasted into LibreOffice without any distortion, the scanner and the HP scanning software are working as expected.
This indicates that the issue is likely related to Microsoft Word for Microsoft 365, rather than the HP ENVY 4527 or its scanning functionality.
You may find the following steps helpful:
- Ensure Microsoft 365 is fully updated.
- Try inserting the scanned image using Insert > Pictures > This Device instead of copying and pasting from Paint.
- If possible, save the scan as a JPEG or PNG file first, then insert the saved file into Word. This often avoids clipboard-related issues.
If the problem only occurs when pasting into Word and not in other applications, we recommend contacting Microsoft Support or posting in the Microsoft Community, as they will be best equipped to investigate a potential issue with the latest Microsoft 365 updates.
We're glad your testing helped identify that the HP scanner is functioning correctly. Thank you for keeping us updated, and please let us know if you have any other HP-related questions.
Have a great day!

Hello @ruane1, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for describing the issue in detail.
Based on what you've shared, the problem appears to have started only recently, and since previously scanned images are unaffected, this suggests the issue is more likely related to the scanning software, printer driver, or a recent Windows/Microsoft 365 update rather than the scanner hardware itself.
To help isolate the cause, please try the following:
- Restart the printer and your computer
- Turn the printer off.
- Restart your computer.
- Turn the printer back on after the computer has fully started.
- Test scanning using a different application
- If you're currently scanning with HP App, try scanning with the Windows Scan app (if you're using Windows).
- Alternatively, if you're using Windows Scan, try scanning with HP App.
- This will help determine whether the issue is specific to one scanning application.
- Save the scan before inserting it into Microsoft 365
- Scan the document and save it as a JPEG or PNG file.
- Open the saved image to verify whether it appears correctly.
- Then insert the saved image into your Microsoft 365 document.
- If the saved image is normal but becomes fragmented only after insertion, the issue is likely related to Microsoft 365 rather than the scanner.
- Update the printer software
- Open HP App and check for any available printer or firmware updates or through the link HP ENVY 4527 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Also ensure your operating system is fully up to date.
To help us narrow this down, could you please let us know:
- Are you using Windows or macOS?
- Which application are you using to scan (HP Smart, HP Scan, Windows Scan, or another program)?
- Does the scanned image look fragmented before you insert it into Microsoft 365, or only after it has been inserted into the document?
Have a great day!

When I paste a scanned image from Paint into a Libre Office document, it comes through perfectly. But when pasting it into a Word365 document, it consists of several overlapping fragments of the original. So now I guess that this is not due to any defect with HP scanning.

I have already posted the coment that, in my case., the fragmentation of an image, when pasted into a Word365 document, is not due to the HP scanner. I discovered this because the same image, when pasted into a Libre Office document, appears as expected and with no distortion or fragmentation.

Thank you for getting back us. You are right, the issue seems to be with Microsoft Word. Recommend you save the scanned image/photo in a different format and check. If the issue persists, request you to connect with the Microsoft support team for assistance.
