Hi! @RPP2, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have issues sending and receiving fax from your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Do you get any errors while sending or receiving fax from your printer?

As you mentioned you have issues sending and receiving fax from your printer.

Try the steps recommended below.

Run a fax test from the printer control panel to print a report that can help troubleshoot fax problems.

  1. From the printer control panel, find and open the Fax Setup menu.

  2. Find and select Test, Run Fax Test, or Test Fax and wait while the printer prints the Fax Test Report.

  3. Review the report.

    • If the report indicates the printer passed the test and your printer continues to have problems faxing, change the fax settings listed in the report to the correct settings.

    • If the report indicates the printer failed the test, review the report for more information about fixing the problem.

If the printer was unable to send a fax because the receiving fax machine did not answer or was busy, the printer attempts to redial based on the settings for the redial options.

Use the following procedure to turn the options on or off. ● Busy redial: If this option is turned on, the printer redials automatically if it receives a busy signal. The default is On . ● No answer redial: If this option is turned on, the printer redials automatically if the receiving fax machine does not answer. The default is Off . ● Connection problem redial: If this option is turned on, the printer redials automatically if there has been a problem connecting with the receiving fax machine. Connection problem redial works only for sending faxes from memory. The default is On .

@RPP2, thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Did you try running a fax test on your printer?

Try the steps recommended below.

Check the cable connections to the fax following the directions below.

   NOTE:

The HP Fax 1050 does not have a 2-ext or auxiliary port for use with other phone appliances.

  1. Examine how the telephone cable is connected to the fax. The fax must be connected directly to the wall phone jack and the cable should be plugged into a jack on the fax that is labeled Line, 1 - Line, To Wall Jack, or has an image of a wall jack.

Any other devices that must be plugged into the same phone jack can be connected to the auxiliary ports on the fax as is shown below.

If you have changed any cable connections, try sending and receiving faxes to determine if you still have a problem.

Figure : Connecting multiple devices to a product with three ports

Figure : Connecting multiple devices to a product with two ports

  2. Examine the cable from the wall jack to the fax. You must use a cable that has only two copper leads or wires as is shown in Call out 1 below (similar to what shipped with the fax). Replace any four-conductor cables with a two-conductor cable. If you have the cable that shipped with the fax and it is long enough, use that cable. You may also want to try changing the cable.

    Figure : Two-conductor and four-conductor phone cables

    1. Two-conductor phone cable

    2. Four-conductor phone cable

  3. If you have other devices (caller ID boxes, answering machine, and etc.) connected to the phone line, disconnect all of these devices, even if they are not connected to the same phone jack or are in another room and then try to send and receive a fax.

    • If you are able to send and receive faxes after disconnecting the other equipment, add the devices back one at a time until you discover the device that was causing the problem.

    • If faxing still isn't working, continue troubleshooting with Step three: Check the phone line. Leave the other phone line devices disconnected for now.

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Let me know how it goes!

Take Care! 🙂
