HP 7001 - Scan Multiple Pictures at Once

I have downloaded HP Scan, chose save as jpeg, changed item type to photo, but the page size dropdown does not provide an option for Detect Photos like I've seen for other HP products.  I am using HP Universal Scan version 51.10.6089 and it is recognizing my printer as a 7001.  Am I missing anything?

The short answer

HP Scan -- that is, the HP Scan that is installed as HP Universal Scan Software is not the right tool for your current task.

True -- HP Universal Scan Software does not include the valuable and loved Page Size option > "Detect Photos"

HP Scan -- the original -- the scam program that is part of the Full Feature Software -- HP Scan program includes "Detect Photos".

It's not your fault -- at this writing there are (at least) two HP Scan software programs --

One HP Scan is the shortcut to the HP Scan executable that is part of the Full Feature Software - the "Original" HP Scan.

The "other" HP Scan program is the HP Universal Scan Software.

Yes, unfortunately, in spite of being two different animals, the program names are the same.

When the full driver printer software is installed, "HP Scan" is part of the whole driver.

The Shortcut to HP Scan that is placed (by the installation) on your Desktop is named for the Printer model.

OK..

HP Universal Scan Software is a separate scan software program.

When the Shortcut is added to the Desktop (by the installation), the shortcut is named HP Scan.

Side Bar - FYI only

Just to make it interesting, IF you have the Full Feature Software already installed on the computer and next install the HP Universal Scan software, the HP Universal Scan Software creates its own separate Shortcut on the Desktop AND adds the OCR libraries to the previously installed (original) HP Scan program.  Ignore this for now - OCR is not relevant to your current question.

Reference: Open  HP Universal Scan Full Feature Software  > If needful, Choose a different OS > Open all > Find / Download / Save / Install HP Universal Scan – Full Feature Software and Driver Webpack.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in. 

HP Universal Scan Software provides a larger GUI to make using the software easier on high-resolution screens.   New features have been added to the main menu to help with navigating the settings.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop.

Note:  HP Scan is not installed (only) when the printer supports Scan.

When needed / wanted, enable "Scan to Computer" using the Printer Assistant

Open the Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable
