Brand new HP Smart Tank 7600 and the ADF does not function properly.  Trying to use ADF to make copies, paper is inserted, but when I press COPY, it copies from the empty glass top instead.  My other HPs chime when a document is inserted into ADF, but I get no indication that this one recognizes that docs are in place.  HELP!

Hi @RBCPA,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Smart Tank 7600's ADF (Automatic Document Feeder). Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check ADF Sensor: Make sure that there is no obstruction or debris on the ADF sensor. This sensor detects the presence of documents in the feeder.
  • Clean the ADF Rollers: Dust or debris on the ADF rollers can affect its performance. Open the ADF cover and inspect the rollers. If needed, clean them with a lint-free cloth dampened with water.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP support website for any available firmware updates for your specific printer model.
  • Check ADF Settings: Verify that the ADF is selected as the paper source in your printer settings. You can do this through the printer's control panel or the printer software on your computer.
  • Reset Printer Preferences: Resetting the printer preferences to default settings might help. Look for an option to reset preferences in your printer menu or software.

Remember to consult your printer's user manual for specific instructions related to your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
