Need help figuring out why my HP 7740 printer will print but not scan.  Was working fine but after a driver update 3 days ago the scan function stopped working.  The scan icon is also missing from my taskbar.  Any help would be appreciated as I work from home and need to scan items every day.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

If you are using HP Smart, then update HP Smart.
A new version is available. Version: 154.2.1072.0 (USA English).

I actually have a newer version than the one you list. 

Version 154.2.1075.0

That works fine.  It is the missing scan function from my taskbar that is the biggest issue.

What is the name of this scan function in the taskbar?
Have you searched under "Start" > "HP"?

There is no scan function when I search.

HP Scan Doctor comes up but I've run that several times.  It runs, claims to have fixed my issue, and that a restart is necessary.  I do a restart and the same issues are still there.   Beyond frustrated at this point.

There is a clone of the printer in my system that I can not seem to delete.  I've uninstalled the printer and reinstalled but that don't fix the issue either.

OK,

 

download only HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories 

Disconnect all connections between printer and computer, including WLAN.

 

Close all apps and then start this software:

File name: Full_Webpack-40.16.1234_1-OJ7740_Full_Webpack.exe (116.6 MB)

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
