Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Before installing the current software update, printing and its options were functioning as they had for years.  After the1316 (28.0) software was installed I lost the ability of the 8600 desktop icon to select a scan, fax, printer status, etc.  Selecting the icon now displays a window for HP Printer Assistant wanting me to allow it to make computer changes.  Select yes, it gives a window to add a new printer selecting that and giving the printer IP address it finishes processing.  One would assume that the problem is corrected, but selecting the printer icon the process is repeated again and again.

Using Scan Doctor, rebooting, Microsoft's app to clear the Registry and reinstalling the software numerous times the Printer Assistant problem is still present.  With this problem, the unit still functions properly.  That is the printer prints and scans via the network.  Scanning has to be done via HPScan which is the app the icon used.  I just cannot get information on the printer's condition, ink levels, sending a fax and the other options that are displayed when the printer assistant does not want to do its thing.

I've got workarounds but it is much easier and cleaner when the correct menu of options is presented.

Hi @rwrose298

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

 Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

--->In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

--->Select your HP printer.

--->Select Uninstall.

--->In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

--->In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

--->Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

--->Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

--->Click on the Drivers tab.

--->Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

--->Select OK.

--->Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

--->Close Devices and Printers.

And then reinstall the printer full-featured drivers from software and drivers page

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks, I've done that except for the command line part.  It appears the drivers have installed correctly.  Since I can print and scan with the unit via the network.  The problem is when the shortcut icon is selected and goes to execute "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\HP Officejet Pro 8600.exe" -Start UDCDevicePage the software never connects.  It opens Device Assistant and only wants to reconfigure the printer to the network, USB, Wireless again.  One problem is that there is not a file named UDCDevicePage in any HP folder from the 1316 build.  This use to open a user interface that displayed the status of the printer, ink levels, etc and allowed the user to select features that they wanted to do i.e. print, scan, Fax, etc.  This is the page that I am looking for.  I see that another user had a like problem on another of your printer platforms.  In this case, they got an HPSmart page (not what they wanted nor I), on my system HPSmart does not do what I am looking for.  Currently to scan items I am using HPScan (I do OCR with this scanner).  HPScan is not giving a window like the other user is getting mine is opening just the scanner options no Fax, ink levels, etc.  That is what I am looking for, the selection window that I had up until I installed the 28.0.1316 complete software package.

I tried your suggestion and the best I get is virtual assistant.  Which is sending me back to your group?  If you have a Phone number for the USA that will likely be the best way.  This is the first time that I have had problems with HP software and I usually use your beta code.  Like I  said in group I have a workaround and I will have to go to the printer to see the ink levels.  It's a shame that this release has problems.
