So ... out of nowhere HP requires me to have an account to scan my documents.

Buh-Bye HP.  I can't get to the store fast enough to replace this All-in-One HP product. In fact ... I doubt I'll ever buy another HP product.

OK - We don't judge what people decide.

 

True -- In most regions of the world -- and since the end of 2020 -- it is required that you sign into the application using your HP Account credentials.

 

The answer: 

At this writing --

HP Smart for Windows is optional for any of the thousands of supported printers that include a Full Feature Software driver installation option.

 

What does that mean?

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

"HP Smart for Windows is optional for any of ... " is a false statement. I've had my HP for over two years. I use the scanner almost daily in my work. This morning I could not scan without an account. I was NOT given the "option" to scan without an account.

HP Smart  requires that you sign into the application.

True - you cannot bypass the sign-in and use HP Smart.

 

If you do not wish to use the HP Smart application.

If your printer is supported in Windows,

If the full driver printer software is available for your printer and your version of Windows,

(then)

Download / Save / Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

 

The full driver printer software includes HP Scan -- no sign in.

 

The full driver printer software provides a foundation to you can install and run other scan programs and applications -- no sign in required.

 

 

If you would like help to find and install the printer software,  please provide

  • Your Operating System / version
  • The model name / product number of your printer
  • How the printer is connected

 

I am happy to withdraw -- we are certainly not here to argue or try to change your opinion.
