HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw - scanner doesn't work 95% of the time - I have to download drivers every time I want to use the scanner - and even then can't get it to work at times.   Seriously discourged with this expensive machine purchased a year ago!!!

IS ther a solution to getting this thing's scan to work?!

Hi  @LousPrinter

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out, and I appreciate you sharing your experience with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3301sdw. I understand how important it is to have scanning work consistently, especially when you rely on it regularly. I'll do my best to help.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly provide a few additional details?

  • Which operating system are you using (Windows 11, Windows 10, macOS, etc.)?
  • Are you scanning using the HP app, Windows Scan, or another application?
  • Is the printer connected via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet?
  • When the scanner does not work, do you receive any error messages? If so, kindly share the exact message or a screenshot.
  • Does printing continue to work normally even when scanning is unavailable?
  • Have you noticed whether the issue occurs after a restart, Windows update, or after the computer has been idle for some time?

In the meantime, here are a few  steps that will help:

  1. Restart both the printer and the computer.
  2. Open HP app, select your printer, and check if the scanner is detected there.
  3. Run the HP App utility to identify and resolve common scanning issues
  4. Verify that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running:
    • Press Windows + R
    • Type services.msc
    • Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • Ensure the service is set to Automatic and is Running
  5. Remove the printer from Settings -Bluetooth & devices -Printers & scanners, then install the latest full-feature software package for your printer from HP Support -  https://support.hp.com/ .

I hope this helps.
