HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw

When I scan to email from my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw, it places the pdf in an email as an attachment, then it attaches that email to another email to send it to me.  Is this how it is supposed to be or do I have something set up wrong?

Hi @

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

The printer should simply send the scanned PDF as an attachment in a standard email without nesting it in another email. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and correct this issue:

Check Email Settings:

  • Ensure that the email settings on the printer are configured correctly. This includes the SMTP server settings, port, and authentication details.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Updating to the latest firmware can resolve various bugs and improve functionality.

Reset Email Settings:

  • You might consider removing and re-entering your email settings to ensure there are no misconfigurations.

Scan Settings:

  • Review the scanning settings in the printer’s menu. Ensure that the scan to email option is configured as intended.

Test with Different Email Addresses:

  • Try scanning to a different email address to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the printer or with the specific email account.

Check the Manual:

  • Refer to the printer’s user manual for guidance on the scan to email function to see if there are any settings or features that might be causing this behavior.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,

Unfortunately the nested emails continue after trying all of that.  We did have a situation that was a little different though.  We had a nested email come from the printer then a few minutes later we scanned another document and it wasn't nested.  So not sure what was different, no changes were made on the printer between the two scans.

It wasn't fixed.  It was going from Nested to Not Nested to Nested again.
