Hi @MADEEL107,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with the scanning.

To seamlessly switch between two HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printers on different networks without reinstalling the software each time, you can configure your devices and settings to handle the transition more smoothly. Here are some steps and tips to achieve this:

1. Install Both Printers on Your Computer

Install Printer A:

  • Connect to the first network (Location A).
  • Install the printer software for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw located at Location A.
  • Ensure that the printer is added to your list of printers and is fully functional.

Install Printer B:

  • Connect to the second network (Location B).
  • Install the printer software for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw located at Location B.
  • Ensure that the second printer is added to your list of printers and is fully functional.

By doing this, both printers should appear in your list of available printers, and you can select the appropriate one depending on your location.

2. Use Static IP Addresses for Both Printers

Assigning static IP addresses to both printers ensures they are always reachable at the same address within their respective networks.

  1. Assign Static IP Address:
    • Access the printer's web interface by entering its current IP address into a web browser.
    • Navigate to Network > IP Settings.
    • Assign a static IP address that is outside the DHCP range of your router.
    • Repeat this for the second printer on the second network.

3. Configure Printer and Scanner Software

HP Smart App:

  • Use the HP Smart app to manage both printers. The app allows you to add multiple devices and switch between them easily.
  • Download and install the HP Smart app if you haven't already.

Add Printers in HP Smart:

  • Open the HP Smart app and add both printers.
  • When you switch networks, open the HP Smart app and select the printer corresponding to your current location.

4. Create Printer Profiles on Your Computer

Windows:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Ensure both printers are listed.
  • Right-click each printer and set them up with distinct names (e.g., “Printer Location A” and “Printer Location B”).

macOS:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Ensure both printers are listed.
  • Rename each printer to distinguish them by location.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @MADEEL107,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Configure Scan Settings

For scanning, you can set up shortcuts or profiles for each printer.

  1. HP Scan Software:
    • Open the HP Scan software.
    • Set up scan profiles for each printer.
    • Save these profiles and select the appropriate one depending on your current location.

6. Network Printer Discovery

Ensure your network settings allow for printer discovery:

Enable Multicast DNS (mDNS):

  • This allows devices to discover services on the local network without a central directory service.
  • Check your router settings to ensure mDNS is enabled.

Firewall Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall settings do not block printer communication.

7. Scripts or Automation (Advanced)

For advanced users, you can create scripts to automate the switching process:

Windows:

  • Use PowerShell scripts to switch between printer configurations based on your current network.
  • Example PowerShell script to set a default printer:

By following these steps, you should be able to switch between your two HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw printers without having to reinstall or repair the software each time you change locations.

If this does not help, I am afraid, there is any other option.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
