my printer won't scan. I had the smart scanner app it says "the scan was not completed because the operation was cancelled while in progress." then I downloaded the HP smart app and it says "scanning was cancelled from the scanner". visibly there's no issues so I have no idea what to do. I tried to talk to support but it led me here so yeah. also I can't make copies either... all this can do is print and not even double sided. but mostly I need the scanner right now. help please! thank you!!

Hi @Cee948585, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP is having scanner-related issues that are preventing both scanning and copying, which usually indicates a hardware or software problem. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to get it working again:

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Try scanning again.

Check for Error Messages on the Printer Screen

  • If the printer displays an error when you try to scan or copy, let me know what it says.
  • If no errors appear, proceed to the next step.

Test the Scanner using the Printer’s Copy Function

  • Place a document on the scanner glass.
  • Press the Copy button on the printer.
  • If copying fails, it indicates a scanner hardware issue.
  • If copying works, then the issue is likely software-related.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Open the tool and select your printer.
  3. Click Fix Scanning and follow the instructions.

Uninstall and Reinstall HP Smart & Drivers

  1. Uninstall HP Smart & HP Scanner drivers:
    • Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
    • Remove HP Smart and any HP scanner-related drivers.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Reinstall HP Smart from the HP website or Microsoft Store (Windows) / Mac App Store.
  4. Open HP Smart and try scanning again.

Use Windows Built-in Scanning Tool (Windows)

  • Open Windows Fax and Scan (Press Windows + S and search for it).
  • Click New Scan and see if it works.
  • If it fails, then Windows is also not detecting the scanner.

Try Scanning from the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Find your printer’s IP address (Check it from the printer screen under Settings > Network).
  2. Open a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar.
  3. Go to Scan or Webscan and try scanning from there.

Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Open HP Smart or go to HP support page.
  2. Check for firmware updates and install them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
